People

CEO and Chief Rainmaker: Brian C. Coester 

Brian C. Coester is a certified and field-experienced appraiser who has personally completed over 5,000 appraisals and appraisal reviews throughout his career. Since becoming Coester’s CEO in 2004, Brian has grown the company from a small local appraisal company to a high volume valuation services provider serving 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. A recognized industry expert, Brian is often quoted in trade and consumer press, and has authored numerous appraisal-related papers and magazine articles. He is also a respected speaker, presenter and trainer within the appraisal segment. Brian has studied under the tutelage of some of the industry’s most well respected professionals, including his father and the original company’s namesake, Timothy Coester. Brian is also a former college football player for the University of Tennessee and University of Maryland, College Park where he majored in business administration and economics.

Chief Operations Officer: Madeleine W. Wickwire
Madeleine brings a wealth of business and management experience to CoesterVMS. She spent over a decade in the high tech industry, building firms' relationships with the buyer, analyst (financial and industry) and partner communities. She ran the Marketing Departments for several software and services start- up firms, enjoying the growth from initial funding to international operations. She joined the defense contracting world as the Program Director for a multi-million dollar Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) multi-year program. In addition, she has spent time consulting to small growing organizations in a range of industries. Madeleine holds a B.A. degree from the University of Michigan. She lives in northern Virginia and enjoys training and competing horses in the sport of 3-day eventing.


Senior Vice President: Kevin Pettaway:

Although he is one of the newest members of our sales force, Kevin has over eighteen years of mortgage experience. His former employment positions include: National Sales Manager at Castle & Cooke Mortgage and Regional Vice President of Wells Fargo Funding Correspondent Lending, Central Region. Formally Vice President Correspondent Lending American Home Mortgage/Union Federal Bank, his primary responsibility was focusing on growth and development in the Southwest region. As Account Manager for 1st National Bank of Arizona, he developed wholesale and correspondent accounts in the Philadelphia metro area. During his stint as Vice President of National Business Development, he developed Joint Ventures in the Central and West regions for Countrywide Home Loans. Beginning his career as Account Manager for Cendant Mortgage he was responsible for growth and development of wholesale and correspondent accounts in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions while also required to oversee 300 banks that are members of the Independent Community Bankers Association west of the Mississippi.

Kevin originally hails from Sioux City, IA and participated in football and baseball in College. In Kevin’s spare time he enjoys golf, weightlifting, and various other sports. Kevin currently resides in Castle Rock, Co with his wife Jeannine and two daughters Taylor and Rhyan.


Director, Accounts: Frank A. Novak 

Frank Novak comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience. He has over sixteen years of experience in the mortgage banking industry. He began his career at World Savings where he spent three years as a top loan originator for the bank in the Maryland area. He continued his career as a loan originator for several lenders and brokers in the Prime and Sub Prime arena. For the past 8 years, Frank worked as the Operations Manager for American Mortgage and Investment Services a very successful mortgage banker in the D.C. area where he supervised work flow processes and compliance issues. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a Masters Degree in Marketing and has an Undergraduate Degree in Business Management from Suffolk University.

 
Director, Risk: Jason Smith
Jason Smith worked in in residential real estate for 10 years, ending his career as an associate broker and a member of the RE/MAX Hall of Fame. He then worked in government relocation for three years with Prudential Relocation. Jason has been with CoesterVMS since July, 2011 and has overseen a 200% increase in size of the Quality Assurance Department. He lives Mt. Airy, MD with his wife and two daughters.

Founder: Timothy D. Coester 

Timothy D. Coester has been an appraiser since 1972. He has worked for notables such as Thomas J. Owens, Donald Boucher, David Len off as well as, Kidwell and Sons. He served on the Maryland Appraisal Board from 1990 – 1992. He held several chief review appraisal positions at national banks and earned several designations from national organizations.


History:
Founded in 1970 by Timothy D. Coester, Coester started out as a local appraisal firm completing valuation services for local developers, lenders, attorney and mortgage bankers. The firm which utilized industry desginated staff appraisers built a solid reputation within the Washington D.C. Metro area for over 30 years.
